today I was really in the mood for kinda baroque/orchestral indie and jazz. smooth, clean music with glorious crescendos, and music that maintains a consistent, shimmering cool throughout. bonus points for lost love/moving on lyrics. a little Dylan at one point, I guess he fits coolness with rough edges, as opposed to Grizzly Bear, with clean lines that reach great heights, or the consistent coolness of Billie Holiday. A little bit of Marine Girls, jazzy quiet twee pop for a rainy day.

Repulsion toward punk, specifically the pop punk and emo of which I am usually quite fond (except for Cap’n Jazz of course). Considering deleting The Ergs! from itunes. Already deleted Algernon Cad and honestly have felt no urge to listen whatsoever. Desiring cleaner, more artful music. I don’t know…more sublety is what I seek.

This band is Grizzly Bear.
I had previously found their flavor of indie to be, well, boring. I tried. I just couldn’t really get into them besides “Knife” and “Two Weeks”, which were admittedly glorious. But man, I either found myself falling asleep or being activiley displeased by the singer who isn’t Ed Droste. But now? BUT NOW? Holy fuck, Veckatimist is a pretty great record. I don’t know how or why today was the day I decided to start liking them, but Grizzly Bear: Welcome to my life.
